About Veracity Butcher

Veracity Butcher is an American actor and performance artist born, raised and based in downtown New York City. With over a decade of experience on Off-Broadway, she has performed as an actor at venues such as The Public Theater, Rattlestick Playwrights Theater, Abingdon Theater, INTAR, The Flea, St. Ann’s Warehouse, The Gene Frankel Theater, Dixon Place, 45 Bleeker, La Mama, and Atlantic Theater. Veracity has performed as a singer for her band, VIOLETS, at venues downtown and in Brooklyn, including Piano's, Drom, Leftfield, Fat Baby, Lit Lounge, Pete’s Candy Store, Nuyorican Poets Cafe, Matchless, Coco 66, Signal Gallery, and NuBlu.

Though primarily a performer, Veracity considers herself an aesthete:  one who appreciates aesthetics and the creation thereof. She is always compelled to collaborate. Her favorite mediums are performance, theater, music, dance, text, video, and voice. She writes stories, poetry, lyrics, plays, and screenplays. Her Moroccan and Cajun ancestry along with her youth in the metropolis have led her to create art infused with the taboo. In her work, she aims to toe anthropological, socio-political and moral lines. VIOLETS’ music video HONOR KILLING garnered 38,000+ organic views in the Middle East for doing just that.

Veracity is trained in Opera (Mezzo-Soprano), Alexander, Linklater, Laban, Meisner, Bellydance and Advanced Tap. She is a member of Oscar-nominated writer José Rivera’s writing circle, moonlights as a Producer for various Off-Broadway theaters, and as Artist Model for cajun surrealist Douglas Bourgeois and minimalist Jan Frank. Since Veracity graduated from Middlebury College Phi Betta Kappa and Magna Cum Laude (Theatre and Arabic), she has participated in over 75 developmental workshops and readings. www.veracitybutcher.com
